Live Jazz Concert

By Shuhong

Went to a street fair with X. today. They have a live outdoor Jazz band, playing mostly Latino-Cuban-Soul Jazz. I don’t really know the various genres of jazz, but Xuanie and I enjoyed it. He sat on my lap and watched the players intently, occasionally distracted by the breeze blowing the leaves and the shadows of the flags and balloons cast on the ground.

He was a great sport, clapping loudly and cheering each time the crowd cheered. We sat through some good 20 min, at least.

Then he got tired, and wanted to sit on the floor. Unfortunately, some guy pushed over a chair accidentally and it hit his little face. He burst into a frenzied tantrum, trying to beat me up as if I was the perpetrator. I moved him away and gave him my usual stern “I’ll count to ten and you keep quiet” session. We went back but only briefly, as the magic spell seemed to be broken.

But, as we headed back to the car, Xuanie got to do some wall painting which he loves.

Was a nice afternoon out. He put his head on my shoulder when I picked him up as we walked back. He was ready to doze off.
