Yesterday, I dropped X. off for his tap-dancing class. The sun was scorching so I decided not to let Em. play at the park outside the school but to get into the car. I didn’t park perfectly anyways as the rear wheel was touching the curb (I have an obsessive objection to that), so I thought to re-park the car.

Since we had a lot of time, I put Em. in the front passenger seat with me, just to relax a little. Almost as soon as I got in after her, with one leg almost still sticking out, I heard a man shout. He was mowing the lawn about 10 feet away from my car. I realized that the tree next to my car had about 1/3 of its trunk chipped off by the strong winds and had collapsed, almost completely dislodged from the main tree.

He rushed over and told me to get out of the car and drive off. I had no idea why he was so desperate. But, as I picked Em. up to move her to her car-seat in the back, I saw that his lawn-mower is half-way off the lawn, almost tipping over to the road side. He had stopped it in a hurry to rush over to me. He kept shouting “go, go, go” as he pulled the tree back holding on to some branches. As I drove off, he released his grip on the branches, and the tree crashed down onto the spot I was parked.

I drove out of the parking spot and walked back to see what had really happened. It was a huge trunk with lots of chunky branches. Definitely enough to cave my car in. Maybe not enough to kill the person inside, but surely enough to cause injury.

That man saved my car and me and Em. I thanked him. But, more importantly, I believe God was watching over Em. and me. Thank God.

Bobo and Lily, the ducks.

We walked past a pair of mallard ducks earlier today.

X: I know them! It’s Lily and Bobo.

Me: How do you know their names?

X.: Miss Sam (teacher) told us. They are following us. Yesterday, they were at the pond. Today, they’re here eating grass.

How I love the happy world of a 4.5 child!

Tomorrow is Today

B. told X. one evening that he would get him a toy after work: “Papa will get you a MacDonald’s toy tomorrow.”

Next morning, X. asked B.: “You will get me a toy from MacDonald’s today? Because tomorrow is today.”

Finally, she walks at 12-months

So, Emmy is finally walking. Not just a few shaky steps nor cruising around holding on to furniture or my hands or her dad’s hand. Right after her 1st birthday, she walks, many many steps.

Become a Painter

X. loves drawing, painting and designing various shapes and coloring them. He always draws for me (at least once a day). Today, he designed a V-Day “card” with detailed borders and a red “heart” in the “core” of the card. So, I asked him: “Do you want to be a painter when you grow up?”

X: “No, I is already a painter.”

Emmy Can Stand Up Without Support

Just wanted to document this. I didn’t do it for X., only remember that he started walking (without support) around the time he turned 10 months.

Emmy stood up all by herself, from a squat position, just once, on Thurs Jan 27, 2011. She’s 10 months now. Not walking yet. She’s a strong and efficient crawler, whereas Xuanie wasn’t. That explains why X. started walking at an earlier age. X. did not crawl till he was about 8 months, and by then, he was cruising around holding on to furniture or anything he could find. He was determined to walk. Even got lots of comments from passers-by that “he really wants to get there.”

Bird-Leaf

Xuanie went for a speech evaluation today. When shown a picture of a feather, he said, “Bird-Leaf.” He didn’t know the word “feather.” I thought that was a very smart answer. A feather looks like a leaf from a bird. It’s cute.

Poor little boy, he sat through 2 long sessions of hearing/vision tests and then a speech test. As he sat on the chair that’s far too big for him (meant for elementary-school age kids), trying very hard, I reminded myself that he’s after all only 4 years and 2 months and I need to be more tolerant of his immature behavior.

Reciprocity

At a very early stage (just 10 months), Emmy is already feeding people around her, i.e.brother, Papa and mostly Mama. This evening, she saw that I had a piece of paper towel in my hand. She whined and reached out for it. Not sure what she wanted, I held her and asked if she wanted to nurse. But she tried to grab that piece of paper, and when I finally gave it to her, she used it to wipe my mouth and face. Just like I do it to her after meals and when cleaning her. How sweet. How mature of her.

Little Glutton

Emmy has my genes for being a food-lover. It’s not about being a connoisseur. Just about liking food. Mostly about being a goat, eating everything.

She was dozing off as we got into the car earlier. She refused to let go of a cracker she had in her hand. As she sat in the car seat, she was going “hmm, mmm, mmm” with her eyes half closed, and licking her fingers and stuffing every of the last crumbs into her mouth as she dozed off.

Needless to say, we already have a few sessions enjoying ice-cream together. I think we will go eating and window-shopping when she gets older. We’ll be best friends to try out all kinds of food together. So happy to have someone in the family that shares my liking for food exploration (finally)!

Me.: Yes.

X.: And Jesus has angels for Papa?

Me.: No, Jesus is God. He does not have a Papa.

X.: Angels are not His Papa?
